Gareth Morris was educated in Caerfilli Boys Grammar/Technical School Glamorgan before spending his university years studying law at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. He served his articles with Messrs Dilwyn Jones & Sons in Llandrindod Wells and was first employed as an assistant solicitor and subsequently a partner with that firm, before setting up Morris & Bates with Anthony Bates on 1st March 1979.
Gareth is the Undersheriff for the Bailwick of Cardiganshire, a role which he has held since 1979. He is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Solicitors for the Elderly and is Clerk to the Tax Commissioners for the District of Aberystwyth. Gareth is also a Notary Public, being the only Notary Public in the County of Ceredigion.
Gareth has expertise in trust and tax planning and deals mainly with inheritance tax, planning and probate matters, although he also deals with residential and commercial conveyancing matters.
Gareth has now partially retired, day to day attendance in the office being available by appointment at Ffordd Alexandra, Aberystwyth and he attends the firm’s branch offices in Knighton and Llandrindod Wells on Thursdays.
Gareth is married with five children, one of whom, Richard, is also a partner in the firm. With increasing spare time, he enjoys gardening, skiing in the winter, walking, cycling and keeping an old 1935 Grey “Fergie” tractor on the road. He has, in the words of many politicians, now more time to spend with his family and grandchildren.
Gareth is a fluent Welsh speaker.
